The Friends have launched a new program designed to stimulate an interest in Canadian military history among young families. Starting this summer, Children (age 18 or under) can become Youth Friends of the Canadian War Museum for one year by submitting an original work of art to the Friends of the CWM. These works may include drawings, paintings, poems, short stories, essays or other creative works and should relate to the mandate of the Canadian War Museum: Education, Preservation and Remembrance.

Youth Friends will receive a certificate of recognition, four issues of The Torch and the FCWM pin. They may also see their work of art published on the Friends web site, in our newsletter, or in special publications. As well, the Friends will be developing special events at the CWM for our Youth Friends.

The Youth Friend program is aimed at children from all age groups. For younger children we are expecting that parents will use the Youth Friend program to encourage their kids' interests in military history and guide them in completing the application process.
