ALF RASMUSSEN

 

Alf Rasmussen is a Director in the Friends of the Canadian War Museum and was the Associate Campaign Director of the Friends' Passing the Torch fundraising campaign from its inception in 1994 to the present date. The campaign successfully raised $17,819,781.00 for the design and development of displays, exhibitions and electronic outreach in the new Museum.

In the Second World War, Alf joined the Royal Norwegian Air Force and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. On his return to Canada and demobilization in 1946, he attended McMaster University under the Department of Veterans Affairs program, graduating in 1950. Upon graduation, he joined the Canadian Army serving in the Armoured Corps (Royal Canadian Dragoons and Fort Garry Horse). During his military career he served in regimental and staff appointments with the Canadian and British armies in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Middle East retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

On retirement from the Canadian Forces he joined the Public Service in the emergency planning field, retiring as Federal Director of Emergency Planning in Manitoba in 1992. Between military and civil service, Alf completed 47 years of public service before becoming a volunteer with the Friends
