Message du Président: Bill Leach

La dernière AGA a eu lieu il y a un peu plus d'un mois. J'aimerais résumer brièvement ce que j'ai fait depuis et ce que je compte faire d'ici la fin de juillet.
Cependant, je tiens d'abord à remercier très sincèrement Angus Brown pour toutes ses réalisations durant son mandat de président des Amis : il a su se soucier des détails tout en nous dirigeant d'un point de vue stratégique. Il laisse un héritage considérable sur lequel nous pouvons faire fond. Nous le remercierons publiquement et ferons de courtes présentations prochainement. Entre-temps, nous souhaitons bonne chance à Angus et à tous les membres de sa famille...

New Program Aimed at Canadian Youth

Fordson Van Unveiling - that's how it was ...

The Friends have launched a new program designed to stimulate an interest in Canadian military history among young families. Starting this summer, Children (age 18 or under) can become Youth Friends of the Canadian War Museum for one year by submitting an original work of art to the Friends of the CWM. These works may include drawings, paintings, poems, short stories, essays or other creative works and should relate to the mandate of the Canadian War Museum: Education, Preservation and Remembrance.

Youth Friends will receive a certificate of recognition, four issues of The Torch and the FCWM pin. They may also see their work of art published on the Friends web site, in our newsletter, or in special publications. As well, the Friends will be developing special events at the CWM for our Youth Friends.

Fordson Van Unveiling - celebrating together!

The Youth Friend program is aimed at children from all age groups. For younger children we are expecting that parents will use the Youth Friend program to encourage their kids' interests in military history and guide them in completing the application process.

Please spread the word about the new Youth Friend program. Tell your children or grandchildren about it. February 17, 2010 was a fitting conclusion to 10 years of effort on the part of the Friends of the Canadian War Museum in financing the acquisition and restoration of a van that was well known to British civilians during the Second World War. On this day, in a joint ceremony between the FCWM and the Museum, the Fordson Van was unveiled, bringing to a successful conclusion the Friends investment of $15,000.
