The Dominion Institute

The Dominion Institute Memory Project has been gathering personal stories from veterans for its digital archive. In addition, the Memory Project has also created a Speakers' Bureau of 1,500 veterans who visit classrooms and community groups to share their stories. In June 2009, the Dominion Institute received additional government funding to expand its Second World War component of personal stories.

The digital archive currently provides over 1,000 stories in oral and printed form along with personal artifacts from veterans who served in all branches of the armed services. These are available at The Dominion Institute. By searching on this data base you can select your preferred language, the conflict you are interested in, as well as province and branch of service of the contributor.

At least three of our Naval Friends have recorded their experiences. You can listen or read stories of Gerald Bowen, Anthony Griffin, and Doug Meredith as well as view some photographs.

Listen to Doug...

Gerald Bowen
"It was demanding, because the North Atlantic is a very cool body of water, and we would sail from Newfoundland over to England somewhere."
Listen to Gerald...

Anthony Griffin
"I want to say that I love the Navy. And those years of dedication and fraternity and constant humour are etched forever in my memory."
