The Battle in the Bog: The Canadian Corps and the Passchendaele Campaign -
This talk will explore the Canadian Corps and the Battle of Passchendaele. The battle-hardened Canadian Corps, commanded by Sir Arthur Currie, was ordered to capture Passchendaele Ridge in October 1917. Amid a nightmare landscape of mud and unburied corpses, the Canadians planned for the assault against the fortified German position. This talk will explore the strategic place of the battle in the war, the Canadian role in the battle, and its legacy.
Dr. Tim Cook is an historian at the Canadian War Museum, where he curated the museum’s First World War permanent gallery, and numerous temporary, travelling and digital exhibitions. He has authored 11 books, including the national-seller Vimy: The Battle and the Legend (2017). He is a Member of the Order of Canada.
