Activities in Support of the Purpose

  1. IMG 4056 CopyThe Friends of the Canadian War Museum (The Friends) undertake projects developed in agreement with the Canadian War Museum. These projects would include such things as: supporting the acquisition and refurbishing of military artifacts; research, cataloguing and rare book conservation; establishing and administering scholarships; and assisting the Museum with travelling exhibits and in creating new and special exhibits such as those to recognize historical anniversaries, battles and individuals. These projects are undertaken as a means of adding to the Museum's collection, enhancing displays or broadening the Museum's capacity for outreach, research and education.

  2. MeetAVeteran1The Friends undertake fundraising initiatives to support their own activities and the projects undertaken to augment the Museum's capacity and displays, to encourage students in the pursuit of studies in military history, to support links between veterans and the Museum and to assist veterans and their families as they visit the Museum. Fundraising activities may include such things as used book sales, adopt a book programs, mailing campaigns, special speakers' events and other activities to recognize military historical events.

  3. PB020017 CopyThe Friends provide volunteers to undertake the work of the Friends and to assist the Museum staff by doing such things as acting as interpreters for exhibits on a special and ongoing basis, undertaking research and responding to inquiries. Volunteers are recruited, provided initial orientation and linked with appropriate Museum staff so as to maximize their support for the Museum and its mandate.

  4. CWM Human Library - 07 CopyThe Friends identify opportunities for members to serve as volunteers within the organization itself and work with the Museum staff to identify areas where volunteers can best support and augment the services of paid staff in enhancing the Canadian War Museum visit experience.

  5. IMG 1288 CopyThe Friends undertake outreach activities to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Canadian military history among members of the general public. With a special emphasis on youth, young adults and new Canadians, the outreach program includes such things as educational seminars, distribution of newsletters, an interactive website, social media interactions and a speakers' forum.

  6. GordLarryDoug CopyThe Friends support the Canadian War Museum as it 'brings history to life', by working to involve Canada's veterans' organizations, military historical societies, like-minded organizations, committed companies and other Canadians in developing a greater appreciation of Canada's military history and the sacrifices of Canadians, both those who served in Canada's military forces and those who supported them.
