In May 1971, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by Prince Phillip and Princess Anne, visited Canada on the occasion of the Centenary of British Columbia’s entry into Confederation.

Royal Visit 1971Her Majesty and Prince Phillip on board Britannia as HMCS Qu’Appelle and St Croix prepare to pass in line astern

During a portion of her visit she travelled aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia and was escorted by HMC Ships Qu’Appelle and St Croix. This picture shows Her Majesty and Prince Phillip on board Britannia as the two destroyers prepare to pass in line astern with the ships’ companies “manning the side” to cheer Her Majesty as they sail past.

At the time, I was Supply Officer of HMCS Qu’Appelle, the lead ship in the photograph.
