Artifact W2-8: Memories of a Bombing Run
Sandy Mutch was an RCAF radio mechanic who arrived in the UK in March 1941. After serving with Number 1 Fighter Squadron in Lincolnshire he was re-deployed to a radar station tasked with directing night fighters against German bombers. Surrounded by Bomber stations he was well aware of the losses being suffered by allied bomber crews as they struggled back late at night.
W2-7: The Sinking of the Lancastria
Among the most-prized books in my library is “The Sinking of the Lancastria” by Jonathan Fenby. It is prized because my father, John Hill, was a participant, as a volunteer reservist, in the events surrounding the sinking and may have narrowly escaped being on board when it happened.
