Rare Footage of the Red Baron

The following is a rare piece of film, 100 years old. It shows Baron Von Richthofen, the so-called Red Baron, putting on a flying suit prior to flight in cold weather. If you look closely you will also get a brief glimpse of Hermann Goering. The Baron was shot down on 21 April 1918 by Roy Brown, a Canadian serving in the Royal Navy Air Services. Australia also claims that one of their machine gunners on the ground shot the Baron down, although subsequent research indicates that the fatal bullet came from above.

The Roy Brown Museum is located in Carleton Place, Ontario, the home town of Brown who was inducted into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame on 4 June 2015.
