A native of Essex, Ontario, Joe graduated from the University of Windsor with a B.Sc (Hon) in Mathematics and Computer Science. He went on to the University of Waterloo where he attained a Master of Mathematics in Applied Analysis and Computer Science.
Joe moved to Ottawa where he joined Bell Canada to write software for mainframe to terminal communications. After a couple of years, Joe jumped to Canadian Marconi Company in Montreal where over a 20-year period he rose to the position of Vice President DataComm Products Division. After that, Joe finished at Nortel Networks for an interesting 5-year cap to his (paid) career.
Joe enjoyed living in Kanata for 24 years but now lives neighbour-free on 75 acres just outside Jasper Ontario.
During Joe's working career, he had the opportunity to travel worldwide to many different countries. Joe retains his love of travel although now his travel is mostly in his recreational vehicle with his wife Carole and cats and on his Harley-Davidson. A major priority is to avoid seeing snow.
Joe has been a volunteer with FCWM since 2007, having been recruited by long-time friend Mike Bedford. Joe was the Friends System Administrator looking after computer and software administration, maintenance and upgrades. He also served as part-time Webmaster, filling in when necessary on the old site, but is now the full-time Webmaster for the Friends new site.
A bit of a shadow to many other volunteers, Joe is fortunate to be able to travel while continuing his work for the FCWM by using high-speed internet and remote computer access.
In addition to his activities at FCWM, Joe has been active backstage in community theatres, teaching motorcycle safety, flying radio-controlled model airplanes and trying to avoid looking like too much of a goof whilst line-dancing.
