Tunnicliffe, Mark D.
After graduating with a degree in Biochemistry from McMaster University in 1972 Mark still did not know what he wanted to be when he grew up. However Biochemist (or anything else to do with the medical world) wasn’t it. So when the recruiting office in Hamilton offered him the choice of Medical Associate Officer or MARS he chose the latter. MARS is the Canadian Forces bureaucratese for Maritime Surface and Sub Surface classification (you get to drive ships), but, given the non-descript green uniform of the day, it could easily have stood for something else!
